1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using the ChipScan mobile application ("ChipScan" or the "app"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the app.

2. What ChipScan Is

ChipScan is a native mobile application for iOS and Android that uses your device's camera and on-device computer vision to estimate the count and color of poker chips in a stack and compute a total value based on a user-configured color-to-denomination preset. All processing happens on your device. ChipScan is provided free of charge.

3. License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use ChipScan on devices you own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use.

You may not:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app except where permitted by law.
  • Redistribute, resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app or any of its components.
  • Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other notices in the app.
  • Use the app in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation.

4. Estimates, Not Truth

ChipScan reports computer-vision estimates that may be incorrect. Chip counts, color classifications, and total values are produced by a probabilistic algorithm that depends on lighting, camera quality, chip design, and many other factors. Outputs are best-effort approximations, not authoritative measurements.

Do not rely on ChipScan for real-money decisions, settlements, or any context where an incorrect count would matter, without independently verifying the result. ChipScan is a counting aid — it is not a referee, an auditor, or a substitute for human judgment.

5. Personal Use Only

ChipScan is intended for personal, recreational use — counting your own chips at a home game, a friendly social game, or for record-keeping. It is not intended for commercial deployment in casinos, card rooms, or any regulated gambling environment. Operators of regulated gambling venues should not rely on ChipScan as a chip-counting solution.

6. Not Affiliated With Any Casino or Gambling Operator

ChipScan is an independent app. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any casino, card room, poker tour, tournament organizer, chip manufacturer, or gambling operator. References to chip colors, denominations, or "casino-standard" presets are for user convenience only and do not imply any official endorsement.

7. Camera and Device Permissions

ChipScan requires camera access to function. You may revoke that permission at any time in your device's system settings — note that doing so disables the scanning feature, which is the entire app. ChipScan does not request location, contacts, microphone, or any other sensitive permission.

8. No Account, No Data Collection

ChipScan does not require an account and does not collect any personal data from you. See the Privacy Policy for details. Anything you save (presets, scan history, settings) lives only on your device.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

ChipScan is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:

  • Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement
  • Warranties that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate
  • Warranties regarding the accuracy or completeness of any chip count, color identification, or total value

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall ChipScan, its developers, or its affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of (or inability to use) ChipScan, including but not limited to losses arising from incorrect chip counts, color misidentifications, or any financial decision made in reliance on the app.

If, despite the above, liability is found, the total cumulative liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to use ChipScan in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) USD $5.00. ChipScan is free, so this number is generally $0.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ChipScan and its developers from any claim, demand, or damage arising out of your misuse of the app, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.

12. Changes to the App and to These Terms

We may update ChipScan from time to time, including adding, modifying, or removing features. We may also update these Terms; when we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a Terms update constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Termination

You may stop using ChipScan at any time by uninstalling the app from your device. We may terminate or suspend access to the app (e.g., by removing it from the App Store / Google Play) at our discretion.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the ChipScan developer is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. To the extent any dispute arises that cannot be resolved informally, the parties agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in that jurisdiction.
